CHIEF ENGINEER (motor unlimited) -PANAMA COC, BAHAMA CEC, INDIAN CDC. -Essential documents with DG approved medical fitness (validity -2 years) in hand. ******************************************* My strongpoint is that I am able to spear-headedly find solutions to emergencies and long standing issues within a short time on new or old ships and I have the proven ability to often succeed where most fail. As I always have a quest for something new, apart from the regular job offers, I’d welcome opportunities to work on “ME “ engines aboard bulk carriers, container ships, on passenger, tanker, DP, ships; with suitable courses//or urgent joining basis. “Experience is not by the number of years on trouble free ships but by the ability to successfully sail ships that pose a challenge to ones skills ” and I’ve done that passionately, going beyond a mere mutually beneficial association. |
[CHIEF ENGINEER /OBSERVER] Last salary drawn: 9800 USD.
[Alternatively, offers as Owners representative or Technical head cum Operations in charge of branch offices outside India are welcome too, with my assurance of fulfilling expectations].
|
Rest assured of a dedicated, conscientious, work attitude with zero tolerance on non-adherence towards environmental pollution and safety issues. My ship related past experience forms the essence of my confidence. I have considerable workshop experience, done new build takeovers, Owners Observer for ship takeover, dry-dockings and have excellent administrative skills too. I believe in maintaining transparency in informatory updates between ship and office, and apart from seeking logistical support, usually, I am able to get by without technical assistance/guidance from office personnel, just their required awareness.
[I strive to keep abreast and personally ensure (and have to my credit) -best results in face of PSC /USCG /inspections / safe voyages/charterers- owner interests. I encourage a harmonious interdepartmental atmosphere onboard and pride myself on being a very tolerant, versatile, amicable person personally or professionally.

EXPERIENCE –IN BRIEF:
* Responsible for identifying and informing the company, of ship drawbacks on technical , environment, emergency situations, inadequate safety, PSC ,ship performance, audit, charterer issues along with remedial suggestions, and implementing them as I deem essential in a timely manner in the company’s best interests.
* Directing, guiding and ensuring proper practices onboard relating to emergency preparedness, fire prevention, safety, inspections, ISPS, Anti-Piracy, Stowaway checks, maintenance operations.
*Monitoring and safely adjusting engine speed basis weather, to ensure adequate ships speed, optimum fuel consumption en-route voyages.
*Take over ships, visual inspection, test of machinery and systems, underwater hull inspections, inspection of certificates, raising guarantee claims (new ships), preparing job sheets for dry dock repairs, drawings, tech-specs, maintenance, modifications and subsequent overseeing their completion.
*Oversee shore based repair team personnel work in a coordinated safe manner onboard.
*In charge of all onboard machinery including electrical /electronic equipment, management of engine room and personnel in a safe, environmental compliant and work efficient manner so as to ensure ship moves from point A to point B safely and on time.
[[ brief description : includes overseeing watch keeping, routine and PMS maintenance, daily operational parameters, filing and record keeping of log/orb/ sulphur / fuel changeovers/ incineration operations, entry of all reports, work done, different ship board software's, overhaul, modification of e/r machinery, preparation of engine plant parameters, arrival/ departure, including maneuvering/ emergency/local maneuvering, steering gear checks, fuel changeovers according to regulations, calculating, adjusting speed, power, consumptions and receiving fuel/ lube bunkers, updating inventory & raising requisitions for essential spares, stores, paints, overseeing rectification of sudden mechanical, electrical breakdowns and handling emergencies such as fire, flooding, blackouts //stowaway, port security, anti-piracy e/r measures and ensuring all firefighting and safeties, MARPOL equipment , machineries are in operational state to comply with inspections, international regulations anywhere in the world , various PSC and USCG requirements, class surveyors, SHOIE –Japanese inspections, etc. . Handling of all technical and charter related correspondence pertaining to speed and consumption queries]].
*Sailed as Observer- Chief Engineer representing buyers, for purchase of vessel. Did complete inspectional /operational coverage from engine room bilges to crane turret tops to examine defects, structural wastage, machinery operations, PMS, fuel, lubes, spares records, inspection of ship certificates from Chinese Captain. Was able to send evidence to portray accurate ship condition, despite seller’s tricks, non-cooperation and being barred from sending images via ship en route. Later took over from the Chinese crew, remedied a sabotage attempt during maneuvering and sailed to dry-dock with an entirely new crew, with preparations for dry docking underway.
*Done trouble-shooting and rectification of mechanical breakdowns including main engine OMD activation, replacement and electronic setting of OMD pcb , scavenge fires, BWC failure, boiler breakdowns, blackouts, dead ship recovery, oil spills, flooding etc.. fault finding with navigation equipment, operational routine tests of CO2 systems, remote stops, shutdowns, QCVs, OWS, Incinerator, emergency gen load test etc..
*Done fault finding with solutions to long standing problems pertaining to e/r systems such as non-operational MGPS , local & remote start, standby of aux engines, etc., within 20 - 40 minutes of attending.
*Was sent with all new engine room hands on a vessel that had earlier grounded. On reaching, the Chief Engineer declared he was not taking charge and was a passenger; (refused to come to ER and wanted to get off the ship owing to the numerous machinery /operational troubles). At the behest of the company, I revived this unseaworthy trouble ship with fully loaded D.R.I. cargo and crossed the Atlantic with new engine room team, all 3 aux engines unreliable and failing, one working main air compressor, in-operational purifiers, main engine rpm not rising above 53 rpm, boiler malfunctioning, water in diesel/ fuel lines. Later also found solutions to the Brazilian and Indian attending marine workshops technical problems . The British engine specialist also confirmed that my diagnosis, systematic and remedial measures were accurate. I ensured the ship reached safely and lives were saved as acknowledged by all persons aboard with the Captain personally repeatedly coming to the engine room to pass company messages and show appreciation, especially after maneuvering. I left the ship on rectification of all technical setbacks and declined a promotion as chief engineer, as well as a job offer in the US- Houston from a very senior technical head Mr. Jaffrey due to ill health.
*Successfully carried out preparation of ship for /during and after dry-dock at Dubai dry-docks , Dalian, Shanghai COSCO docks, underwater hull survey inspections, class surveys change of class special survey. (BV to LLOYDS) etc. Ship take-over, yard delivery vessel, sea trials, ,tests, operations/troubleshooting of each e/r equipment aboard, bunker surveys etc..
*Sacked a 2/E for sleeping repeatedly on night watch, dereliction of duty, combined with a disgusting disharmonious attitude and extremely poor knowledge on one ship, and cleared the PSC inspection at Brazil. On another ship, on joining, the 2/E & E/O was barred from Engine room and subsequently sacked (after kind words failed)..for dangerous acts /poor housekeeping/negative attitude and environmental non-compliance . Thereafter, within 15 days of joining ship , got the same vessel shipshape, cleared by MCA without a single finding, when the office was expecting over 25 deficiencies due to poor ship condition. (Before leaving those sacked, came to me and apologized, realized their shortcomings and said they sincerely wished to sail with me again). * Promoted many engine room junior personnel.
*Done successful onboard installation of doctor kit for main engine performance.
*Done modification of sewage plant with installation of hospital sewage system and connections to main sewage plant with fabrication of permanent discharge manifolds (port and stbd.) for shore facilities and getting the same cleared by class. Also designed and installed a new bunker line, with modification to existing bunker line and got it tested and approved by class.
*Planned and received fuel bunkers while sailing at dead slow ahead due to weather conditions on two occasions.
*Done PSC/ USCG preparations worldwide with no department related deficiencies till date owing to my guidance, initiatives to update myself / ship personnel via internet, and my demonstrations (including in-charge abandon ship & fire drill in presence of USCG) as requested by Captain.
*Received Certificate of merit awarded by Anglo Eastern onboard vessel, MV. Mol Prestige with Japanese owners saying the engine room was like a sewing machine and their inspectors could not find any fault.
*Received USCG certificate for rescue and tow of 5 American fishermen and their vessel. (When almost 5 hours of unsuccessful attempts by the deck personnel owing to rough sea state, later, after discussion with the captain, I went on deck, assessed the situation, thereafter instructed ship movements on walkie-talkie and got the stricken vessel successfully rigged to the ship within 35 minutes and towing done until handover of vessel to USCG).
* Personally rescued and revived an Electrical officer onboard by CPR on finding him lifeless and bleeding.
* Worked with multinational crew.
